Organic Groceries Delivered

Since the pandemic rocked our world, shoppers have so many options for getting groceries delivered.

As a locally owned and operated Ottawa grocery delivery company, we got curious about how our offer compares. We know the big players are using our name goodfood2u to pay for google ads, and they are able to lure away customers with marketing dollars and coupons that are beyond our spend.

So, we compared our Basic Box of organic produce. Each week the basic box has a wide range of fruits and vegetables that are in season, local when possible and are good value for money. We also minimize packaging and choose a selection that optimizes healthy eating – orange and green vegetables, a rainbow of options for optimized phytonutrients.

We compared the contents of one week’s basic box to two large online retailers – the conclusion – goodfood2u was significantly cheaper, while offering more local items, minimal packaging and fair employee wages. In addition, because your delivery is placed on an optimized delivery route, a delivery from goodfood2u uses less fossil fuels. For years we have viewed ourselves as a premium option that affords convenience, and this analysis shows us that in fact, we are a better deal, while also being better for workers and the earth.

The costs of convenience

We now live in a world where we can have anything delivered instantly. But at what cost? A recent conversation with a friend who dug into where all her money was going, showed that a high percentage of her income was going to convenience deliveries like UberEats and Instacart.  When she calculated the costs of this convenience compared to the food she actually received, she was blown away.

Both retailers we compared to draw from publicly traded large national grocery chains, one of the two, uses gig workers to shop and deliver to you.  We were shocked to realize how much cheaper we were than these two large competitors. Perhaps this makes sense in light of how little gig workers are making to deliver these items, see the article from the CBC on this here. Or in light of the continued high profits of the large grocery chains, another article here.

So, if you are looking for organic groceries, and you are in the Ottawa area, and you are ok with doing some advance planning to get yourself on a delivery route, check us out. Goodfood2u.ca – save yourself time and money, while paying people fairly and treading gently on this beautiful planet.
